Morris LeRoy Shiley was born Oct. 27, 1935, in Albion, Pa., the son of Morris Astor and Florence Ann (Snyder) Shiley. He married Mary L. Smith May 24, 1958 in Lusk, Wyo.
Shiley was a career military man having served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. He was later a mechanic and worked for the U.S. Forest Service until his retirement in 2003.
Morris was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish. He was a member of the VFW. Morris was also a former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Custer, S.D., and was active in the local Knights of Columbus. He also greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and camping. However, his greatest enjoyment was time spent with family.
Morris, of Quincy, Ill., died on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 in his home. He was 77.
Morris was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Melisa L. Delaney; and two brothers, Duane Shiley and Bruce Shiley.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Moreen Stambaugh and Melinda (James) Rinella, both of Quincy; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Shayla) Delaney, Aubrey (Dusty) Hunter, Luke (Amy) Evjen, Nicholas Rinella and Alex Rinella; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elsie (Bill) Mundkowsky and Linda Nine; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Feb. 1 at 9 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home in Quincy and at 9:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, also in Quincy by Msgr. Michael Kuse. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home with military rites conducted at the cemetery.
