Old Time Country Fourth kicks off

Eating contests, two parades and a fireworks show are among the many events on tap as Custer celebrates an Old Time Country Fourth of July beginning Wednesday at noon with a children’s fair at Way Park.
The fair will run from noon to 3 p.m., along with live music on stage in the park from noon to 5 p.m. Way Park is located in the 400 block of Mount Rushmore Road.
Other July 3 events at Way Park include old fashioned races from 1-3 p.m., a burger eating contest at 1:30 p.m., a hot wings eating contest at 2:30 p.m., and more live music from 7-10 p.m.
The evening concludes with the “Magical USA” Grand Magic Show at the Showbarn, near Flintstones, at 7:30 p.m., as well as a flag-lowering ceremony at the 5th Street flag pole at 7:30 p.m.
On July 4 the events get started with the Kids’ Parade and Patriots’ Parade in downtown Custer. There will be an arts and crafts fair at the 1881 Courthouse Museum from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as more live music at Way Park from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
