The following is a list of the top 20 items in the Custer County Chronicle’s Sheriff’s Log for 2012, as selected by the staff of the Chronicle. The Sheriff’s Log is written weekly by Custer County sheriff’s deputy Seth Thompson. Numbers 20-11 will be listed this week.

“Maybe they were praying to the bark beetles.”
Tuesday, May 8
8:54 a.m.: Trespassers left some weird things behind at a campground on Iron Mountain Road: some candles inside a circle of table salt poured on the ground. No strange apparitions or ectoplasm was found in the area. Is the truth out there?

“The size is a
rough estimate.”
Sunday, Nov. 18
6:27 a.m.: A report was received of an unknown concave-shaped flying object that was “half the size of the courthouse,” traveling at a high rate of speed between Stagg Road and Pringle. Is the truth out there?

Sunday, Nov. 11
8:32 a.m.: Theft of a hunting blind was reported on West Argyle Road. Apparently, it wasn’t camouflaged well enough to keep the thieves from noticing it.

“I just saw a mountain lion with fava beans and a
bottle of Chianti. ”
Saturday, April 28
7:33 a.m.: Two missing lambs were reported on Highway 385 south of Custer. A mountain lion may have carried them off; can you hear the lambs, Clarice?
