Sheriff, court over budget
Published: Thursday, November 1st, 2012
The Custer County Commission authorized an $80,000 supplemental budget at its Oct. 24 meeting, as it deals with three budgets in law enforcement that have surpassed or will surpass what was budgeted for them last year.
Custer County Sheriff Rick Wheeler came before the commission at the meeting and spoke about the sheriff’s department, prisoner care and court service budget, all of which were past or near their allotted money. Wheeler explained the reasons for the overages in the budget—in the case of the sheriff’s department it’s fuel money—and spelled out how much money it would take to get the three entities through the remainder of 2012.
Wheeler said this year has been full of events, such as the Myrtle Fire, that has put the department well over its fuel budget.
