Girls defeat Belle Fourche, fall to More

Custer’s Sydney Mohr attempts to get by St. Thomas More’s Kahli Miller during last Thursday night’s game at the armory. Mohr has seen increased playing time in the post due to the injuries to Tiffany Dower and Taylor Harkin Steele.

The girls kicked their slow-starting ways Saturday against Belle Fourche, bursting out to a 28-17 halftime lead before staving off a fourth quarter Bronc comeback on their way to a 50-39 win.

Custer head coach Stephanie Ornelas credited the victory to a fast start—something the team has not been overly good at so far this season. In turn, she credited the fast start to a change in home game pregame preparation, something she felt was necessary after the team’s recent slow starts at the armory, culminating with the team’s loss to St. Thomas More last Thursday night.

“Our focus and intensity right off the bat (against Belle Fourche) was better than any game we have had this year,”âshe said.â“They were ready to go that game.”
