Thorpes throttle Wildcats

After watching Pine Ridge play its final game at the Lakota Nation Invitational tournament in December, the Custer High School girls were confident they could play with—and defeat—the Thorpes when the time came.

Last Saturday the team played with the Thorpes, but only in the literal sense.

The Thorpes jumped out to a quick 13-1 lead and never looked back, stomping the visiting Wildcats by 42 points, 65-23.

The Thorpes forced 24 Wildcat turnovers, didn’t allow a single Wildcat player to score in double digits and scored more points in the first quarter than Custer did in the first three quarters. The Wildcats made only nine baskets the entire game.
