Wahlstrom places third at state

After a season full of hard work and improvement, wrestling came to a close over the weekend as the Custer Wildcats traveled to Aberdeen for the state “B” tournament.
“It kind of went as expected,” said coach Jared Webster. “The first timers got the experience they needed. State tournaments are a whole different atmosphere than other tournaments. It was nice that we were able to get the younger ones there and get them back (for the next wrestling season).”
In the 113 weight class, Micah Grace had a tough match up against the number one wrestler in the 4B region.
“Coming in after getting fourth at the region, he faced the number one guy right off the bat,”âWebster said. “He had a hard draw.”
Blake Jensen (126 pounds) had similar luck, facing stiff competition throughout the meet.
“The most important thing is that they got some experience,” Webster said. “That’s what needed to happen. They’ll be back next year, so that’s great.”
In the 170 weight class, Casey Siedler had close matches, according to Webster, which was nice to see.
“He knows where he’s at and what can happen for next year,” he said.
