Six Wildcat wrestlers qualify for state

The Custer High School wrestling team is working hard this week, putting the finishing touches on a well-wrestled season. With the State “B” tournament just days away, six wrestlers will attend the tournament in Aberdeen in hopes of bringing a first place finish back to Custer.
“The kids wrestled very well (at the Region tournament),” said coach Jared Webster. “We were able to send six to state. We had more chances to get a couple in there, but you never know what can happen. I’m not disappointed with what happened.”
Micah Grace (113 pounds) took third place after defeating Keagan Fitch of Philip while Blake Jensen (126) took fourth place after losing to Chad Whitley of Stanley County. Chasen Cole (132) took second place at the Region 4B tournament with Philip wrestler Rance Johnson edging him out. Casey Siedler (170) took fourth place at the tournament after being defeated by Bennett County wrestler Brad Hahn and David Sigdestad (195) took fourth after being pinned by David Jensen of Mobridge-Pollock.
As a team, the Wildcats finished in sixth place, with 95 points. Philip won the team championship.
Senior wrestler Clayton Wahlstrom (182), who wanted to go undefeated this season, took first place at the tournament, defeating Luke Vogel of Potter County.
While two seniors will head to Aberdeen this weekend, sadly one will sit out.
