Senior wrestlers place at Lyman Invite

After having a two-week break, coaches tend to worry about their team’s performance at the first tournament. Not Jared Webster.
“I’m really happy that the kids are shooting. Moves are starting to come together,” he said.
The Custer High School wrestling team competed in the Lyman County Invitational Tournament over the weekend, their first competition since Christmas break. The three senior wrestlers, who dueled against tough competition, walked away with a place in the top eight.
Chasen Cole (138 pounds) took seventh place while Clayton Wahlstrom (182) took second after losing to Beresford wrestler Joshua Casperson. Of the seniors, Mike Murray (220) had the best meet, taking third place.
“He beat the sixth, seventh and eighth ranked kids in the state,” Webster said. “He had an excellent tournament and wrestled well.”
Webster was happy with the team’s performance at Lyman, especially since they competed against teams they hardly ever see.
“There was excellent competition from the East side of the state and they did great,” he said. “(The team) is trying moves and is getting better every weekend.”
