Soccer team shut out

The Custer High School soccer team was shut out by visiting James Valley Christian 5-0 last Friday evening in Custer, the team’s fourth consecutive loss.
Christian scored three goals in the first half and added two more in the second, as Custer couldn’t generate much pressure on offense, and suffered a scare when leading scorer David Hernandez collided with a Christian defender. Hernandez was able to get up eventually, but the Christian player was taken to get x-rays.
Assistant coach Doug LeFebvre said the team is still limping into games, dealing with injuries to two of its main defenders. Casey Bawdon is out with a leg injury, while Alex Kortemeyer has been having lower back problems.
“These two guys anchor our back line,” LeFebvre said.â“We have had some other people step up and do an incredible job, but it is tough to head a ball away when you are a foot shorter than your opponent.”
