With the road to the state tournament soon beginning, the Custer High School wrestling team continues to improve as a team and individually.
“I’m starting to see more heart and more passion,” said head coach Jared Webster. “I’m very pleased.”
The Wildcats competed at the Black Hills Classic Wrestling Tournament in Hill City on Saturday, Feb. 2, where 10 wrestlers took individual places. The team took third place at the tournament.
“The kids did better here than they did all season,” Webster said. “They’re not yet at their peak, but they’re getting up there. It’s exciting to see.”
Jahrett Scheimer (113) took seventh place after defeating an opponent who had previously continued to dominate their matchups. Tabin Elmore (138) took fourth place, Dylan Severyn (152) took first place, Brett Scott (160) took seventh place, Clayton Wahlstrom (170) took first place, Casey Seidler (182) took third, Ben Marchand (182) took seventh, Clay Seidler (195) took fifth and Mike Murray (220) took fourth. Chasen Cole (126) also won his weight class at the tournament.
With regions just around the corner, Webster said the team needs to continue working towards their goals they set at the beginning of the year.
