The Custer wrestling team took on the Douglas Patriots Thursday, Jan. 24, in the last regular dual of the season, where they lost 38-30 in a close match.
"There were some good matches and some not so good matches," said assistant coach Bob Morgan. "We lost a couple of matches that we should have won. We definitely could have won the dual."
While many of the younger wrestlers on the team were able to wrestle, that may have been the team's undoing.
"Our more experienced wrestlers did really well," Morgan said. "We have more young kids on the team who need that experience. I think with a little more, our team will be pretty dangerous."
Three wrestlers traveled to Belle Fourche for the Belle Fourche Tournament on Friday and Saturday, where all three walked away with individual awards.
Clayton Wahlstrom took first place at the tournament after defeating an undefeated opponent from North Dakota, as well as the second ranked wrestler in the state. Both Dylan Severyn and Clay Seidler took second place in their weight classes.
The rest of the team traveled to Red Cloud, where they wrestled round robin style.
