Snow problem: Football team rolls over Hill City

As a Hill City running back came through the Ranger offensive line, Custer middle linebacker Paul Climenti met him, stood him up and drove him into the ground—the two of them disappearing into a cloud of snow. When he emerged, Climenti looked to the sideline, his face and view obscured by the snow his helmet had scooped up on the play. As a teammate ran onto the field for the next play, he stood in front of Climenti and wiped the snow from off his helmet. It was a play that typified the night.

At Ranger Field last Friday night, teamwork was needed both during and after plays.

On a cold October football night, the Custer Wildcat football team wiped away both snow and the Hill City Rangers, winning 26-6 in a game that was played in what at times was a driving snow storm, a storm that eventually tapered off midway through the fourth quarter. It was Custer’s 10th consecutive win in the rivalry.

 “The kids played well; they played a solid football game from start to finish,”â��Custer head coach Russ Bailey said. “I couldn’t ask for anything more out of that game on Friday.”
