The Custer High School volleyball team competed at the Lakota Nation Invitational (LNI) in Rapid City on Friday, Sept. 28 and Saturday, Sept. 29, where the team took second place and three players were given awards voted by other coaches.
Lisa Lovoll and Moe Mack were nominated to the All-Tournament team while Tia Goebel was selected as the LNI Best Setter.
The Wildcats lost the championship game against Pine Ridge, 22-25, 11-25, after winning the semifinal round against White River, 25-12, 18-25 and 25-22.
“There were some very positive things that came from this tournament,” said coach Renae Schneider. “Some of our games gave our bench players opportunities to get more court time.”
Schneider was impressed with Nykyla Malinosky during a match against Takini. Malinosky served 15 times in a row, with 10 serves being aces. Malinosky was also four of five hitting with two kills and had 13 digs.
