The visiting Belle Fourche Broncs scored early and often in a 6-3 win over the Custer High School soccer team last Saturday afternoon in Custer.
While it was the Wildcats who pressed the action in the opening minutes, the Broncs took over shortly thereafter and notched a goal in the 12th minute. Before long, the Wildcats were already staring at a 3-0 deficit.
“(The first goal) just kind of took the wind out of our sails and we really couldn’t get into the game,”âassistant coach Casey Trandem said.
Complicating things was the fact Custer’s best player, David Hernandez, was injured in a collision with a Bronc defender in the first half and sat out around 20 minutes of the half. The Broncs added two more goals while Hernandez was on the sidelines—one off a corner kick, and one that was half the distance of the pitch—around 60 yards—and went into the net just over the outstretched hand of goalkeeper Matt Lepke.
