he Custer High School girls golf team competed in its second meet of the year April 3, traveling to the Douglas Invitational at Prairie Ridge Golf Course in Box Elder.
After starting the season out on a strong note, the team took a bit of a step backward at the meet, finishing with a team score of 280, led by Katie Martinez’s 61. Only nine holes were played at the meet.
“It wasn’t as nice as it was the time before, but we have had such little time to really work on a lot of things,” head coach Dale Schaffer said. “In golf, if you hit two bad shots in a row, things can go downhill quickly.”
In addition to Martinez’s score, Kayla Halbmaier finished with a 65, Shiann Kothe a 69 and Pooja Patel finished at 85. Hot Springs’ Schuyler Wetzel was the medalist at the event, finishing with a 40. Hot Springs also won the team title with a score of 182.
