Wrestling squad closing gap on other teams

Custer’s Tanner Eiesland works to get control of his Hot Springs opponent during the ’Cats’ recent dual with the Bison. The Wildcats fell to Hot Springs, but did pick up a win over St. Thomas More.

Instead of heading east toward Winner, the Custer Wildcat wrestling squad drove south to Chadron, Neb., to compete in the Chadron Invitational Tournament this past weekend. While no one from Custer placed, coach Jared Webster said it was nice to see Custer show signs of improvement.

“We are getting closer on closing the gaps on people,” said Webster. “Now it just has to show at districts, regions and state.”

One of those showing growth for Custer was Zach Wager (160) who previously lost to Levi Collins, Hot Springs, last Thursday by eight points. In Chadron, though, it wasn’t until the final 10 seconds that Collins had the match won, 4-2.
